David Burnett |
David Burnett is a photojournalist based in New York. He displays his work on his own website showing images of war, sport and politics. He earns a living by taking photos for the news and he also collaborates with other groups such as Facing Change, working on the media for documentaries. Burnett had also created a book containing a large amount of his work.
The first photograph shows a laid out uniform, which seems like it belongs to a young child which has been ruined. This indicates that some kind of event has happened which has badly affected the surrounding area, e.g war. Before the event, the clothes with pins suggest that they were being tailored perhaps for a wedding. The emotion from the photograph reflects onto the viewers, which is mournful and heart-rending. The ruined clothes are the focal point of this photograph, this is because Burnett has added a dark vignette and has a shallow depth of field. This conveys a strong sense of emotion. The second photograph has similar a similar effect to the first, the dark vignette around the edges make the photo gloomy and mysterious, which adds to the deep sorrowful emotion. The photograph shows part of a ruined room, perhaps, which was once a family room, that has been destroyed by a possible bomb. The war prone area has been wrecked which affects the viewer’s feelings and confirms the indication of war. I like this photo because the composition is simple, and the photo is centred. This allows us to explore all areas of the room. |
